Laser Raman Spectroscopic StudiesBack to Mineral Characterisation Studies

Raman spectroscopy is a useful technique for the identification of a wide range of substances - solids, liquids, and gases.
It is a straightforward, non-destructive technique requiring no sample preparation. Raman spectroscopy involves illuminating a sample with monochromatic light and using a spectrometer to examine light scattered by the sample.

Standard Operating Procedure

  • High Precision and accurate quantitative multi element analysis (major & trace elements from B to U) of minerals & ores (silicates, Carbonates, oxides and sulphides) including high quality imaging at high spatial resolution
  • Determination of PGE and REE bearing minerals
  • Chemical dating based on Th-U-Pb in appropriate minerals like monazite, xenotime
  • CHIEM dating of monazite is also performed on commercial basis
  • Zoning and diffusion mapping (X-Ray mapping)
  • Also applicable in experimental petrology, meteorite, environmental and metallurgy & ceramics studies

Existing Locations:

  • NCEGR, Kolkata
