36th International Geological Congress (36 IGC) is rescheduled to 16 � 21st August 2021 at New Delhi.
India is going to host the global event of 36 IGC for the second time after a gap of 57 years. The 36th IGC is funded by Government of India under the aegis of Ministry of Mines (MoM) and Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) and scientific support from INSA and Science Academies of Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
GSI has been designated as the Nodal Agency for organising the 36th IGC. Director General, GSI is the Co-President of 36IGC. The theme of the 36th IGC is �Geosciences: The Basic Science for Sustainable Future�.
Large number of GSI officials shall be participating in the Congress as delegates, speakers, presenting authors and members of various organising subcommittees of 36IGC. GSI shall be conducting pre/post/in Congress 36 IGC field trips, few in association with universities and other institutions.
It has also been envisaged to set up exhibition booth in GeoExpo of 36th IGC to display unique geological specimens of rocks, ores, minerals and fossils of the Indian subcontinent and other scientific materials and models. Few selected publications showcasing GSI activities and contributions in the form of Coffee Table Books and Atlases, etc. Audio visuals, slideshows on various notable geological themes shall be brought out in this prestigious platform.

GSI had planned 22 pre/post congress 36th IGC field trips and few other field trips in association with universities and other institutions. The Field Guide Books will be released before 36th IGC on appropriate dates.
The field trips conducted by GSI during February, 2020 are:

1. CR001: A magnificent trail to Gondwana geology, nature and heritage:
                 Satpura Basin (from 27.02.2020 to 02.03.2020).

2. ER005: The Teesta Chronicle: Tectonics-Climate & Human-Landscape
                 dynamics (from 25.02.2020 to 01.03.2020)

3. WR001: Palaeoproterozoic Lead-Zinc-Copper Sulphide Metallogenesis in
                  Aravalli-Delhi Orogenic Belt, South Central Rajasthan (from
                  26.02.2020 to 29.02.2020)

GSI had prepared special geoscientific publications on Indian geology as coffee table books and atlases, Geotourism sites in India, bibliography of GSI Publications, mineral belt maps, etc. for showcasing in 36th IGC, which will be testimony to the contribution of GSI in the field of geosciences in India.

Participation of 700 GSI officers was envisaged for 36th IGC 2021. 36th IGC had accepted about 500 abstracts by GSI officers for full paper presentation as oral /as e-poster presentation under different geo-scientific themes.
