The two coastal research vessels namely R.V. Samudra Kaustubh and R. V. Samudra Saudhikama built in Netherlands were commissioned in 1984. R.V. Samudra Kaustubh (RVST) is engaged within Territorial waters of east coast of India. The vessel is equipped with modern instruments and sampling components which were deployed for mounting various typed of investigations such as seabed mapping, offshore placer sands, construction grade sand, geotechnical investigations, environmental programmes and site specific surveys for R&D programmes like submerged archaeological artefacts. The vessel was fitted with shallow multibeam ecosounder system in the year 2006 and was utilized for detailed swath bathymetric surveys upto contiguous zone.
