Coastal Studies Back To MCSD Home

M & CSD takes up Coastal programmes related to studies of the coast and nearshore (0-10m water depth) areas where the water depth is too shallow for the vessels to explore. In such areas country boats and small hired crafts are used for the study. The main trust area of coastal studies includes placer mineral resource evaluation in the beach sand and sand dunes, coastal erosion studies such as identification and demarcation areas vulnerable for coastal erosion and suggest remedial measure; environmental impact studies of coastal areas, remedial measures, geochemical pollution of environments and morphology and evolution of sand bars / spits, coastal lagoons, their evolution, palaeoclimate.
