Explosive Strombolian type eruption continues in Barren Island....
  A team of geoscientists from Geological Survey of India led by Shri P. M. Tejale, Director General, visited Andaman Islands during the period 3-9 January 2009. Geoscientists from Marine Wing, Eastern Region, Central geophysics Division and Central Headquarters participated to plan for future study in the area. The team visited several islands, especially Baratang and Barren to study the recent eruptions. GSI team could successfully land in Barren Island, conduct study and collect samples in spite of continuing eruptions..[details] [snapshots][video clip]
