A National workshop on Medical Geology under the aegis of IGCP-454 was held at Nagpur, Central Region, Geological Survey of India, on 3rd and 4th February 2004. Representatives of World Health Organisation (WHO), scientists from Geological Survey of India and many other reputed Institutes of India participated.
Director General, Geological Survey of India released Proceedings volume of the Workshop in December, 2004. The volume contains 60 number of papers presented by the geologists, geochemists, medical researchers, environment engineers and allied scientists.

The papers presented are divided broadly into two chapters. In the First Chapter there are eleven papers delivered by eminent researchers from the premier research and scientific organisations of India.
The Second Chapter includes six sections on various geo-medical topics. There are 49 papers presented in this chapter, which includes topics related to geogenic factors such as toxic elements in soil, rock, water, air, metals and non-metals etc., which affect the health of biota.
This volume is a unique one of its kind published for the first time in India; the knowledge disseminated through the volume will help update scientists, including medical practitioners, working in the field of Medical Geology.
