Geological
Survey of India Training Institute(GSITI)
About
the Institute
The
Geological Survey of India Training Institute (GSITI) is the premier
institution in the country imparting state-of-the-art
training in different disciplines of Earth Science. GSITI has its
headquarters at Hyderabad and conducts various training programmes
through its six centres
located at Hyderabad (Andhra
Pradesh), Lucknow
(UttarPradesh), Zawar
(Rajasthan),
Ranchi
(Jharkhand),
Raipur
(Chattisgarh), and Chitradurga
(Karnataka). The Institute has specialised divisions such
as Photo Geology and Remote Sensing (PGRS), Geophysics and the Centre
for Geoinformation Management Training (CGMT), all located at Hyderabad.
GSITI
since its inception in 1976 has conducted 654 training programmes (up
to 2006-2007) and trained 13,114 geoscientists of GSI, other earth
science organisations
and universities of the country and also from foreign countries.
The training modules are designed with focus on fundamentals and applied
aspects of geoscience viz., Geology, Geophysics, Geochemistry, Natural
Hazards, Remote Sensing, Drilling and Surveying. The Institute regularly
conducts ISRO (Department of Space) sponsored training courses on
Remote Sensing (NNRMS) and Geoinformatics for Disaster Management
and DST sponsored training courses to cater to the needs of the universities
(faculty members and research scholars), sister organizations and other
outside agencies.
GSITI’s Centre for Geoinformation Management Training
(CGMT - erstwhile Proj: INDIGEO) is equipped with state-of-the-art
computer facilities and imparts training using ArcGIS, AutoCAD Map,
ERDAS Imagine etc., for capturing, manipulating, processing and visualization
of geoscientific data. Courses designed for strengthening the application
of digital techniques in geoscientific data processing on GIS platforms
have been in great demand and CGMT is fully equipped to meet such
demands from time to time. The centre has been carrying out a course
using high resolution satellite data for landslide zonation and hazard
risk management for the last two years with technical collaboration
with ITC under a joint agreement between GSI, ITC & NRSA. Training
courses have also been designed for our technical and administrative
officials.
GSITI has the capability to conduct customized courses for other
organisations by sponsorship and / or through collaboration. The Institute
had earlier conducted DST sponsored five year cycles of SERC summer
/ winter school programmes through which training was imparted to faculty
members and research scholars of various universities and personnel
from sister organizations. Programmes meant exclusively for personnel
from the Govt. of Bhutan and training in Marine Geophysical Survey
for the officers of the Indian Navy are among a few of the prestigious
courses conducted by GSITI. Special training programmes on GIS and
engineering geology for AP State Ground Water Dept., NTPC and Northern
Railway and a training programme on Geochemical Mapping for the officers
of GMRDS, Gujarat Government were conducted in F.S. 2006-07.
The Training Institute encourages outside sister organizations
both from government / public sectors and other agencies to participate
in the departmental training programmes as well as for conducting separate
programmes as per their need with a nominal fee. Geological organizations
from NER can avail the same facility for which fee can be exempted
on case to case basis. Any organization interested to join the training
courses as per this calendar, or desirous of getting customized courses
organized exclusively for their personnel, may send due request to
the TI Headquarters, detailing specific requirements.
